What You Need To Know About Slip Disk
Do you know how important the spinal cord is in your body? This is what makes you walk, sit, bend and practically do anything that will require support, sleeping included. Many people suffer from spine related issues with slip disk being one of the most common spine cord conditions out there. The main cause of slip disk is often excessive exertion of pressure on the intervertebral disk that causes it to damage. Contrary to what the name may suggest, slip disk does not actually result from a slipped disk because the spinal disks are perfectly interlocked. What happens is that the tissues may rapture, tear, swell or bulge on the surrounding areas, causing painful sensation on the nerves. The pain can sometimes be too excruciating to bear, especially at severe stages.
What causes it?
As mentioned before, slip disk happens due to excessive pressure applied on the spine from improper lifestyle, poor bending habits, accidents, wrong lifting or twisting and turning the back. The common symptoms of this condition are pain on the nerves especially on the neck, lower back and the buttock areas, numbness on the areas affected that may lead to paralysis, weakening of the lower body, inability to stand, bend, walk or lift the upper body and itchy or tingly feeling on the buttocks and the genital areas.
There several ways to overcome a slip disk problem, the common being keeping the back straight, avoiding intensive and heavy activities, and massaging the affected area. It is a wise idea to consult a doctor for precise instructions and advice.
