Symptoms of Slipped Disk
Slipped disk, herniated disc and disc bulge all refer to the same thing, this is a condition that happens when the inner center of the disk migrates outwards. The result will be increased pressure on the outer layers of the disk and neighboring structures. The slipped disk symptoms and their severity largely depend on the intensity of the bulge, it can be a simple unnoticeable slip or a potentially aggravating bulge. The bulging of the disc alone is not a cause of pain or discomfort if the affected structures have a high threshold to withstand the pressure increase. This is why there are people who have herniated disc but still live painlessly as if it is not there while others agonize every minute of it.
As the disc gets more pronounced, the pain may gradually increase and may pass to the lower back to the buttock region. If it grows beyond this point, the disc will then aggravate the nerve roots, leave the lower back and may implicate the sciatic nerve as it travels all the way past the buttock region to the back of the leg. Nerve irritations are the most felt slipped disk symptoms because irritation on one end often causes ripples of pain throughout the nerve length.
Other than this symptom, the other most common sign of the slipped disc is the severity of the pain, which is often made worse by possible inflammation. When this happens, the constant irritation is unbearable and may completely disrupt a person’s life and perception of the severity of the condition.
